Typically a conservative newspaper over the years, they have endorsed Democrats in three of the last four Presidential Elections. The paper became the Sentinel-Star in 1974 and in 1982 became the Orlando Sentinel.

The Orlando Morning Sentinel coverage aided in the false persecution and the cover-up of the murder of two of the boys by Sheriff Willis McCall when transporting them to their new trial won by NAACP Legal Fund attorney Thurgood Marshall. This story is documented in the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, “The Devil in the Grove,” by Gilbert King. In 1949, four Black boys in neighboring Lake County were wrongly accused of the rape of a white woman.
